Now that we are a few weeks into quarantine, most of us have figured out something, even if it’s just one thing, that is saving our sanity. Though we don’t know what the future holds, and while we have worries about all manner of uncertainties, there might be times (even if it’s just for a fleeting moment) when we feel we have got this thing figured out. Right?
We all have a friend who boasts of how she’s cooking dinner, while homeschooling, taking a shower and folding laundry all at the same time. She’s nailed quarantine – or at least, that’s what she wants you to believe. Then there’s the friend that sends you ALL the funny emails and videos that are circling around the internet, reminding you of why you are friends in the first place – she’s a bucket-filler and great at times like these, raising your spirits and keeping you laughing. There’s the friend that keeps you up-to-date on the ever-changing business climate or the friend that goes quiet and could really do with a phone call to just hear your voice, in place of a hug. Throughout all of this, tips are being swapped, ideas are coming to light and deeper friendships are being forged - from a distance.
We asked our staff, what they are enjoying about quarantine and if they have any tips or hacks to share. Here is what some of them said:
ENJOYING>
RELATIVES threw a virtual potluck with neighbors and family members that lived close by. They assigned a time to drop off the dish for each person, then assigned a time to pick up their “meal”. STILL social distancing, BUT ALSO sharing food. We all logged on to Zoom and WE ATE together.
HACK>
Throwing a Virtual Potluck (Still being able to break bread with family and friends)
ENJOYING>
Showing the garden some love, watering neglected plants, and really enjoying both quality and quantity time with family.
HACK>
Working outside is life! Especially while home-schooling.
Being concerned about our health just visiting the grocery store means we go less often and prep better beforehand.
ENJOYING>
I’m loving my backyard. Every day when I’m out there I notice something new that’s flowering and beautiful.
HACK>
A grocery shopping template on my phone - organized by the sections in the store. As something runs out it goes onto the list. when I meal plan at the weekend, all the ingredients go into the template then so I don’t have to grocery shop very often.
ENJOYING>
The thing I enjoy the most about this new normal is not driving too much and saving on gas money.
HACK>
To save my sanity during this difficult time I spend some time on the weekend plotting out my week.
ENJOYING>
Sheltering in place doesn’t give you much need to get all dressed up. But we’ve had plenty of extra time to catch up on some shows & movies – We watched ‘Bottle Shock’ and Missing that wine tasting experience, especially with this beautiful weather, we thought it’d be fun to get a little dressed up, put on the Somm movie and do a blind wine tasting with a charcuterie board. We ended up face-timing some friends and they opened a bottle too.
Round 2 with reds is this weekend!
HACK>
Do something out of the ordinary every once in a while.
ENJOYING>
My favorite thing about this new normal is that I talk to my grandmother more often. We FaceTime or talk on the phone a couple of times a week now, where I’d only chat with her once or twice a month before. It’s definitely something I want to keep up.
ENJOYING>
Work calls while walking the neighborhood; sunshine, exercise, and the spring flowers are impressive
Plus, TikTok exercise breaks
HACK>
While making lunch, I make dinner in the slow cooker, love only having to cook once during the day.
Being able to throw in a laundry load every morning. No laundry on the weekends!
ENJOYING>
Less traffic – I could get used to that!
HACKS>
Making lunch instead of eating out. We are using all the food in the fridge and making some inventive salads!
One more tip? Our Petit Wet Dry Bags are perfect for storing your Bebe au Lait Face Mask when they are not in use!
We hope you find some of these tips useful. None of them involve looking at an iPad or watching Netflix. This time is a gift to take stock, reset, and really live in the moment. Enjoy that element of quarantine while it lasts.
